Lockout modes
A manual lockout shuts an account for a set time when you know you should stop. Click it, confirm, and the account won't take new orders until the timer runs out. You can't undo it. That's the point.
Start a lockout
- Open Risk Manager from the + menu.
- On the account row, click 15m, 30m or End Session in the Lockout column.
- Read the Start lockout for this account? box and click Start lockout.
If Risk Manager is off for that account, it switches on first, then the lockout starts.
| Button | Length |
|---|---|
| 15m | 15 minutes from now. |
| 30m | 30 minutes from now. |
| End Session | Until the next daily reset, 5:00 PM Eastern by default. |
The status turns to LOCKOUT and the buttons are replaced by Time remaining with a countdown.
Careful. Once it starts, you can't cancel it, shorten it or turn Risk Manager off for that account until it ends.
What a lockout blocks
The same rules apply whenever an account is restricted: a manual lockout, a daily loss breach, or being outside your trading window. Risk Manager has two modes for this.
| Block all | Reduce-only | |
|---|---|---|
| New orders | Rejected | Rejected if they add to your position or open one. Orders that reduce it go through. |
| Brackets and OCO orders | Rejected | Same rule as new orders. |
| Changing a working order | Rejected | Allowed unless you raise the quantity. |
| Cancelling orders | Allowed | Allowed |
| Closing a position (Liquidate) | Allowed | Allowed |
Which one do I get?
Block all. Every account uses it, and the Risk Manager window has no switch for the mode. So during a lockout you can only cancel orders and close positions.
A rejected order shows the reason, like Manual lockout, Daily max loss lock or Outside trading window. The dialog may also say only reduce-only orders are allowed. Under Block all that's not true. A limit order to reduce your position is still rejected, so cancel or use Liquidate instead.
While you're locked out
- Your risk settings are locked until the timer ends. Hover the lock icon on the row to see why.
- Orders already working at the exchange stay there until you cancel them.
- If the account is a leader in Trade Copier, nothing it does gets copied while it's locked.
Tip. Had a rough hour and feel like chasing? Hit 30m before you do. It beats arguing with yourself.
